Super Studio NZ 2008

Team ‘Post Mo Bills’ winning entry for the first national twenty-four hour Super Studio competition.

The brief asked for an installation within an ex-mining town in central Australia. The solution had to showcase the abilities of photovoltaic's through the collection of enough power to run the town, while also helping in other ways through the creative design.

Our solution incorporated 86m long stakes installed throughout the town at a 45 degree angle. The stakes originally appear with a triangular section but open up to enhance solar collection while also supplying extra shade and a dynamic “breathing” movement throughout the day.

The location of the stakes is defined by the density of population and usage of spaces within the town. The spaces below the stakes are set up for a range of activities to ensure the towns occupants can enjoy the provided shade.
